We have had a first happen here. My son Jeffie's Nubian doe was due Thursday, at least it was her 150 day mark. The night before, I am a procrastinator, we separated her out and put the monitor in her house. At 9:00pm we checked her and she had the tiniest bit of clear mucous, not even stringing yet.She was eating hay and grain as if she had not a care in the world. She was a first time freshener. We had to go pick up my husband from the hay field and got back at 9:30pm. I had a feeling and told Jeffie we better go check his doe once before we went in the house. He looked at her rear and said, oh, she's stringing mucous now, I said, Jeffie, she has a baby!THere in the corner stood a little stranger. In a half an hour she had that kid, dried her off and fed her! I laughed and thought she must have heard our wheels going out the driveway and layed down and started pushing! What a painless way to have a kid! The doe doesn't even look like she had a baby! All is well with both mama and baby. By the way, baby is a doeling! Of course cute, baby Nubians are adorable. What a surprise Ant played on us! And this is the LAST baby of goats or cows this year. Now I can get some sleep....zzzzzzzzzzzzDalice
