I'm so sorry that you lost a little one. Its always so hard especially when they are so new.
At work, when we have lambs born in alot of "goo" what we will do, especially when they look almost dead is hold them by their back legs and spin around - so that the lamb (kid) spins around you - I guess the combination of the gravity to drain stuff out and the cintrivital (sp) forces help pull the junk out of the lungs.
With the calves (esp ones we pull) we hang the calf - back legs over the fence for a few - some one holds them so they dont flop over and we let them hang for a few min till they de-goop-a-fie. Somtimes you save them, sometimes no. those suckie things usually work really well - and another thing that is handy is foundin most livestock catalogues ,or nasco anyway - Resuscitators. Its like those things you see in the ER when someone stops breathing - its a mouthpiece and a "bellows -like" pump part where you can pump fresh air in. We have one at work, but luckly havnt had to use it in a while.
Hope the rest of your kidding season is un-eventfull!
