Abcesses

I don't want you all to feel lonely, so I will share this problem with you. A few of the goats out at the school have abcesses. I read an article about what to do and we lanced them yesterday. I am not sure how you know if they are contagious or not. I would imagine they are since 3 goats have them. How do I keep the other goats from getting them and can I prevent them from coming back? Thanks for any help you have!
