Hi folks,
Just to let you know, Mary our white Saanen and her kids are doing great despite the real bad weather. I still haven't gotten the pictures posted I promised. Since her kidding and now, we've gotten 8 inches of snow and the temperature has been down in the teens (it's headed for a low of 2 tonight). Needless to say, I haven't dared to venture outside with the digital camera.
But I did come up with names for them - at least one of them - Phil or Phillip. The reason why is kind of strange. Some of you know that I started working for a dairy a little over a week ago. Well, this past Friday, I needed to take the day off to take my wife to the VA hospital. About the time I would have gone in to start milking, the owner Phil Barnhart, age 60, cried out once and died instantly of a heart attack. The guy I switched shifts with tried to give him CPR but there was just no reviving him.
I hardly knew Phil but from I had learned in the short time I did know him was that he was a pretty nice guy. Hard worker, good morals and a health nut of sorts. It was a real shock to me to say the least. I've been told I have a sort of clairvoyance or ESP in some regards, and in the time I did know him, the thought did once cross my mind that he might not be around all that long - don't ask me why but it did. He didn't look like he was in bad shape or sickly. Certainly I wasn't wishing it. From all looks of things, his two boys are going to try and keep the dairy going. I talked to them a bit on Saturday and agreed that I too thought their dad would want them to keep it going. Just a real sad change of events. I feel pretty badly for them and his wife. Odd how life can be. The owner can die and the cows still need to be milked on schedule.
So anyway, I decided to name at least one of the twin kids after him since I never really got to know him as I would have liked to. I thought about Bill for the other one but I keep thinking Phillip is the name I should use and no other names rhyme with Phillip. I'm open to suggestions.
Hopefully this weather will warm back up and I'll get those pictures posted soon.
Best regards,
Gary
