Hi Helene,

There is a possibility of getting cocci from old hay, especially if it has been close to the ground and the other goats used it for bedding or soiled it. But it's probably more likely that they would get other diseases from the mold, worms (or the larvae), and perhaps alot of other bacteria in the coliform family. I'm just taking a ahlf educated guess here but probably what happens is they get into old feed with or without mold and it is just enough to upset their natural pH thus causing the scours for a day or two until the pH in the rumen returns to normal.
