Sounds like she had a "five day heat". It's common with our pygmies, here is how it goes: Doe comes into heat pretty much on schedule, but it could last a shorter time than usual. Five to seven days later she is in raging heat. I usually breed on both days. If I use the date she kids as an indicator she became pregnant on the latter heat not the first one. IMHO this may be how so many breeders say their does kid on the 155 day of gestation. They missed the "five day heat" but their buck did not! Also for detecting signs of heat when you don't have a buck on the premises, make yourself a buck rag. Take a clean rag and rub it all over a stinky buck particularly his face and beard. Keep it in a tightly closed jar. To use it let your does sniff it daily and watch for flagging. This may also help bring them into their heat cycles stronger and sooner during the season.
