I haven't gotten freezing temps yet and I dread it coming, but it will we live in the Winter Wonderland called Michigan. Last year I asked Santa for a large heated water tank for my cattle. I still have to carry water but at least it isn't frozen. Cows really drink a lot of water! I also have a small tank with a submersible heater for the bulk of my goats which works nicely. But for all my pens away from the barn and electricity I give them water twice a day and all have seemed to so fine for over 7 years now. I have seen them lick ice, I don't know how much they get from that, but I would think it would help some. I know my chickens eat snow, I have seen them do it!
