Hi Lila,
I received your phone message a few minutes ago when I came in from work. It looks like you have already gotten some advise here so I'll write out my thoughts on the matter - then if you still think the situation warrants a phone call, that will be okay.
On the Corid, I used to use this mixed in our goats drinking water with no apparent problems and beneficial results. Over time, more and more people talked about Corid, or the active ingredient Amprolium being a detriment to a goats health because Amprolium depletes thiamine levels. Then Corid powder became difficult to find - I heard many stories why but have not since it since about two years ago. The drug of choice for most breeders now is Albon.
We've had very few problems with coccidiosis here and I think alot of it has to do with feeding alot of minerals and burning the pastures every so often. Coccidiosis is always present in a goat. It basically comes down to a goats immune system being out of balance enough to where the coccidiosis that is present in the goat can multiply to dangerous levels. This is more likely in young goats (who do not have a fully developed immune system) than older goats - but can occur in older goats.
There has to be some aspect that you are overlooking. I don't want to sound condescending here, but I would take a serious look at the bedding area, pens and overall cleanliness of the "common" area where the goats are. Just one overlooked spot can mean a hotbed of germs and harmful bacteria. Your goats may be producing a plethora of antibodies to fight off a specific bacteria, causing enough of an imbalance for the cocci levels to multiply.
Please take a look at the article below for some further advice from one breeder in particular. I learned alot from this article as it has a lot of great insight into prevention and treatment. Please let us know if things get better (or worse) and we'll try to help.
Best regards,
Gary Pfalzbot
