I feed a grain specifically designed for goats. I felt it was probably the best way to go, as it is designed by animal nutritionists for the specific breed. I have pygmy goats, so I feed them each about 1/2 cup a day, devided into two feedings. The larger breeds would get alot more than this. I also throw in some blackoil sunflower seeds (BOSS) a few times a week.I always have free choice mineral and baking soda and hay available at all times. They are expecially enjoying their browsing now, as the leaves are falling....or I guess I should say have fallen from the trees, and they love to pick out the ones that they like. As far as feeding pregnant does, I have read several different articles that state not to increase the feed amount or protein until the last two months of pregnancy. Apparently that is the only time it is needed. If you increase feed and protein and earlier, it makes a "fat goat, and "fat kid" which can cause problems at kidding. There are alot of good articles out their, you might want to check out. I just wish I'd saved the sites that I had read them at. I'm sure there must be one on Goatworld.
