About 60% of the herd doelings and bucklings seem to fall off at about the 3 to 4 week point in their lives. It's consistent and pervasive amoung my herd. I have bred cross does to full blood bucks and have purchased top quality bred does whose kids have way-under-performed the same way. My question relates to the 3 to 4 week period in a young goats life. Does the rumen change dramtically? Is the kid exposed to disease for the first time at 3 to 4 weeks? Do young goats that get diseases, slow their growth to a crawl without showing other visable signs like lethargy, depression, hunched back, bad poop or other visable signs of distress? Do other breeders "hit the wall" at about 4 weeks of life?
