I really don't think that there is any true method of preditor control, when it comes to coyotes. I have been reading alot about the species, as we have quite a few packs of them living on our mountain, and I was worried sick about our animals. I think the focus needs to be on protecting your animals. A nice guard dog, is good to have around...but they may not always win against a pack of coyotes...although they would stir up enough rucous to get your attention, and then you could go out to help...that is when the 22 comes in handy. Winter is usually when you have the most trouble with coyotes. That is when their food supply starts to dwindle. I found it interesting that a major source of their food intake in the summer is blueberries. Guess I shouldn't be suprised as my farm dog is always picking our blueberries for a snack. In the winter, major food intake is deer, and small livestock, although a pack of them can take down a cow or horse. I have found that locking my animals up before sunset, and not letting them out until after sunrise, seems to be working for me. I also have heavily fenced in yards. Just some info. to share.
