I am very, very puzzled. As some of you may recall, I recently purchased my first two Saanen dairy goat does. When I got them home almost two weeks ago, I noticed that the younger doe had one teat that was a bit swollen. I attributed this to the fact that she was in heat. But today, I noticed it again. It had not gone down. Concerned, I felt of the udder and noticed it was a bit firm on that side. I know that CAE can cause udder malformalities, but she was just tested and was negative. (I know that this doesn't always mean she will stay that way.) Anyway, just for the heck of it, I kind of squeezed, as if I was milking and lo and behold, SHE HAS MILK! Not much, but I got several steady streams. Naturally, I didn't sit there and try to milk her out or anything, but I'm wondering why this could be. She isn't even a year yet and she has never freshened. What's going on?
