Around here a lot of hunters worm their hounds with the injectable 1% Ivomec at 1/10 cc per 10 lbs. They give it SQ. I know ivermectin can be given to dogs orally because that's what is in most of those high priced heartworm tablets you get from the vet. I've been wondering if I could give the injectable orally and if so what the dosage would be? I've got two Pyrs that I don't relish the thought of trying to give a shot to....

The drawback to using Ivomec on the dogs is whether or not they have heartworms. If they haven't been checked for heartworms then they should be before they are given the Ivomec. If they do have heartworms, the Ivomec can kill them.

I also read on another list that someone just wormed her LGD's when she wormed her goats. She said the dogs had been given Tramisol, Valbazen, Ivomec and I don't know what else. My dogs get on my nerves sometimes (well...most times!) but I don't think I'd give them whatever I happened to be giving the goats at the time! If I can find out the oral dose for the Ivomec I'll just put it in a little milk once a month and Voila!!
