Any animal ... is that if you want an animal to DO something, kindness is the best way. With dogs, I use lots of praise, with horses, I just make undesired responses more work than the desired response. Goats seem to respond well to either tactic, at least as far as I've seen.
If I want to cure an animal of doing something unwanted, on the other hand, I tend to use force. Nothing stops an undesired activity faster than connecting it with a frightening or uncomfortable outcome ... animals don't understand "please don't bite/kick/chase/etc." They do understand a shout of rage and a quick slap.
*shrug* I'm a total newbie around goats, but they seem to be pretty smart animals, and easy enough to communicate your wishes to. (I've been pleasantly surprised by how smart goats are ... definitely smarter than a dog.)
