Although I'm not totally familiar with the "complete" chick story (ie reasons why, ect.. per say of the diferent airlines) I definately believe that this is the first in a series of steps to keep animals/livestock from flying in the "friendly skies."
Just take a minute to think of how many animals are shipped, and for what purposes. Examples.. ok, day old chicks, other fowl, kids across country, dogs for dog shows, or pets on vacation, horses cross-continental for events and olympics, how about those search and rescue dogs that are flown out within hours with search teams to attend crisis situations!!!
Personally should I ever be in a situation where I'd need search and rescue i'd appreciate a dog to be flown in within hours, vs a few days of car rides, bus, or train...
Anyway, just my normal 2cents :-)
