Well, I've never known of a one-clawed goat, but at Uconn, we had a one-clawed dairy heifer. I forgot exactly how she lost her claw, but they had to amputate it. She was up and mobile shortly after surgery but would never be able to join the herd in the free-stall barn because of competition. (and her claw would slip into the slotted floors) Her problem was her size - this heifer's rear claw had alot of weight bering to do, and eventuially it was breaking down.
I'd tend to be more opimistic with a goat - as long as he's allowed to heal well, and stay trim weight wise I don't see why he couldn't live out a almost normal life. (a big size difference between a goat and cow!) He may have to have his own pen, and a non-agressive buddy for a while till he adjusts but I think he should do fine. Also, i'd tend to keep him in better footing for quite some time - not sure if he'd hold up well to foarging on rough terrain later on in life. (most goats are quite content with a full hay feeder, a buddy and the occasional tree branch treat!)
Best of luck to your little guy! Althuogh, a strap on sort of prosthetic claw is an interesting idea! Farriers can be great! (mine is facinated with goats... mine behave better for feet trimming then the horses :-D
