Looks like the vet may have to amputate one claw on a rear hind on my goat ... goat's in surgery right now, they're cleaning that wound out and will determine after they clean it if the claw's salvageable. The goat wasn't going to let anyone even LOOK at the foot without sedation. (My suspicion is that it's not fixable ... I saw the x-rays and the coffin bone is smashed and it's a compound fracture.)
Has anyone known a large goat with an amputated claw? Looks like the other claw is fine ... will he be able to bear weight on one claw? My vet wasn't sure; he said he'd never done an amputation on a goat before, or seen one. (They'll tackle anything, but most people just eat injured goats around here.)
He weighs less than I thought ... only 80. But this is with an empty tummy and moderately dehydrated.
