People have their own preference as to how old the bucks should be before they're banded. This is because of the risk of urinary calculi. Some say wait six or eight weeks to give the little guy time to mature to reduce the risk of the calculi. But I've done it at three days old and had no problems. I prefer to do it when they're young. It doesn't seem to bother them as much and since I'm not a very big person I don't get the poop kicked out of me!
I think the calculi comes from the diet not the age of the buck when he was banded. There are going to be many who will disagree with me on that one!! Whenever you do it, just be sure the little guy is up to date on all his shots, especially the tetanus. Hope that helps.
