We worm at 3 weeks, and for some that is incredibly early. 8 days old is way to early. Contrary to the information in one goat catalog kids are not born with worms, and most have a 21 days lifecycle once picked up, so it could be the worming that upset the stomach. I would give the kid some probios. Also, with the dam dead, what are you feeding the kids? If it is milk replacer make sure you are not using a soy one. They cause blockage, bloat and scours. The best thing to use for at least the first couple of weeks, (well other than goats milk) is whole grocery store milk, warmed to body temp (102) then after a couple of weeks you can 1/2 and 1/2 it with a good milk replacer that is formulated for kids. After another couple of weeks you can go straight to replacer, at the same time feeding them a good quality kid or lamb feed. Higher in protein than your goat feed, with a cocci drug in it if you prefer.
I am so sorry about the dam. I am also sorry we missed the retained placenta. Vicki
