My girls love alfalfa. Its convenient for us because we grow our own. It seems that 1st and 2nd cuttings are the best less waste and found if I leave the stems in the feeder long enough they'll eat them eventually. When we wean then they get grass hay to help dry them up. They don't dive into it like the alfalfa but they do eat it.
