It is a difficult decision to make I agree. Many people take the stance of never having "pets" and instead refer to them as "livestock" only - never becoming attached to them. While I am certainly no expert on the matter, I will give you my thoughts:
We all keep or get rid of our animals for certain reasons. I guess one has to ask themselves what the real goal is that they want to achieve and how far they are willing to go to reach that goal. There is probably no harm in keeping the goat as a pet. I honestly do not know the particulars for showing - if the third teat will be a fault or not.
But then again, you are trying to go for "show" quality and if the third teat is a fault, then of course the goat is only going to be as good as a pet in the longrun. So it may be best to cut your loss now and invest the money from the sale of the three teated doe into another doe that has no fault as such. Again, it's a hard line to cross but I'm sure that you will make the decision that you feel to be right.
You might keep the goat to milk only and there is always a chance that her offspring won't carry that fault next time around. With your daughter being attached to her, that might be difficult but I know that if you set a good example now, she'll (your daughter) may be prone to follow it later on in life and thank you for it.
I tend to think of goats in the "business" aspect because they can either make or break you. I hate using the analogy of playing in a band but it helps me to get my point across: we had a drummer that we all were very good friends with. Very nice person, fun to be around, always a positive attitude. Only one problem - he could not play well and was not willing to practice enough to get better. We knew it would hurt his feelings to replace him but we also knew he was hurting our chances of being hired. Much as we wanted to stick by our "friend" we had to replace him or only be as good as the weakest link and keep our band on an amateur level.
I'm curious to know, what breed of goat is this?
Hope this has helped at least a little bit until someone can tell you more about the third teat being a fault or not.
