She is producing to much milk to just stop milking. How much grain are you feeding her? Is your hay really good quality? If your hay is really nice you can take away nearly all of her pellet, keeping out a loose mineral for her, once dry introducing the pellet back slowly until she kids. Or, if your hay is just grass hay, than just drastically decrease her grain, leaving her with some calories and nutrition from the grain.

Like Melissa said milk her twice a day, but leave at least 1/2 of the milk in her each milking. After a couple of days milk her out only enough to relieve the pressure. By this time with limited grain and barely milking her, you can stop all together. I check the udders about every 3 days taking some milk out if she is really!!! uncomfortable. Remember that milk production is supply and demand. If you demand milk from the udder she will supply more. Let the pressure build it triggers the brain not to release the oxytocin for milk let down, and no milk is made. Once she has stopped producing more milk, I empty the udder all the way. If she has been treated for mastitis ever, or you had any problems with her milk this year, than infuse each side at this time with a dry cow, and one with staph protection in it would be great. All of this could take 3 weeks. I also dry my does up usually at 100 days bred. Vicki
