Hi Mandy.. baking soda is a natural rumen stabilizer...helps prevent digestive upsets. I had a handful to my loose mineral mix each time I refil it. I use Golden Blend Goat Minerals from Custom Milling in Georgia -they have a website you can order from. Most loose mineral mixes already have molasses added for flavoring, so I would not suggest any more sweetener is necessary.
