We have no keeping quality to alfalfa here in East Humid Texas :) So the only alfalfa my girls and boys get is chopped dehydrated called US Alfalfa (Purina also makes their own more expensive brand). This time of the year I but coastal horse hay, and the growers around know that I actually prefer the first cutting as long as it isn't to tall, because my goats like the weeds, and red clover that is in it. In late fall I will use red cane or haygrazer, and would buy my hay from Kay, if she wasn't so far away. The stems that are left that they don't eat are great bedding for my out barns. For winter I put away the nicest grass hay I can find, selling all the old hay that I haven't used up. I stick pretty close to the horse folks out by me, who know where to find the nicest hay, here in cattle country. Vicki
