Although we are new to this goat thing too, we have a mix of several different kinds of goats and have about 21 in our herd. Most are brush goats, w/a mix of boer. We have 3 (triplets) boer bucks who are 4 months old, and one full Neubian, and a few boer/Lamancha mix. Then we went to a goat show not too long ago, and I saw a registered LaMancha doe who is between 4-5 months old and I had to have her, she had the best temperment and I wanted her for a pet. Eris (her name) is a wonderful pet, she loves to play, we have a pit bull as our house pet, and a Great Perynese (spelling??) "Ralph" out with the goats..Our Pit does not bother with the goats, actually she likes to play with them..Ralph, who is still a puppy also plays well w/our goats. We actually have 3 goats that are pets, Eris, Nicholas who is one of our Boer kids and belongs to my 8 yr old son, and a brush goat named Jessie..all are around the same age..and were bottle fed. Eris will run up to you like a dog when she sees you comming, and loves to come out behind the gates and just "hang" with the family..although Ralph is not too keen on it, he likes his "babies" to stay with him.

I have heard that the brush goats kind of have a mind of their own, and either a Neubian or a LaMancha make the best pets. I also have heard that if you get them young and bottle feed them that is also best..Sometimes when you get them when they are older and not used to being around people, they tend to be skittish..Our 3 bottle feds are so sweet..as you can tell..I would keep them all for pets if it was up to me.
