Vicki hit the nail on the head.... its all supply and demand and in promoting your herd. You really do need to get out there and compare whats "under your hood" so to speak with others and then breed to improve. I do know that from our experiences in raising boers for a few yrs. we didn't do too well. Got in just as the market wa sslumping in the east. So to make a long story short a group of producers in our area, VA/NC/WVA/PA/TN decided to form a goat marketing coop to improve the prices. Well.. it worked for a little while. you really NEEd to study the market. for example if you can get to New Hollnad, PA for the sale at the Holidays then you can do fairly well. But this alst time we shipped half our herd and our manager said to ship the week before Easter as thats what their market person at the sales barn said. So we did, and guess what? everyone else had the same idea, and there were over 4,000 goats there. Needless to say my wallet is still hurting from that one... OUCH!

But network in your area and see whats available and just sort of go from there. Good Luck.

Bernice
