The bruise is more than likely blood pooled under the skin, a hematoma. As long as it doesn't get any larger he will be fine, if it grows it means he is bleeding internally. The first thing really to do is to pour peroxide over the goat to find all the puncture marks. Using an iodine based ointment is what we use. It is like vaseline so it is thick. I actually inject iodine into the puncture wounds since you can not suture them closed and want them to clean. Our Ridgeback, Morgan had a serious throat laceration from the deceased dog next door. She is fine now. I would also put him on Pennicillin, to help with wound infection, any 300,000 unit pen can be used at 3cc per 50 pounds, given every 12 hours under the skin for 5 days, continued if anything does get infected. On Morgan she was on the mend on day 3. I would push for proof with the sherrif that the dog has had his rabies, also handing her a bill for the meds! Vicki
