I'm making a call for articles on hoof trimming if any of you are interested. I'd not say that I'm an expert on the subject but I've recently had to start trimming some of our goats hoofs from time to time. This was something I really did not have to do much before because of our rocky soil. But the goats have made themselves little paths through the pastures and cleared alot of the rocks away.

One of the best ones I heard was that a guy or a lady would walk their goats up and down the driveway a few times a week and this naturally kept the hooves in check. Unfortunately I just don't have the time to do this at present. I've also heard that leaving a goats hoofs untrimmed can cause them to develop weak pasterns. On our goats, I've primarily noticed that the back hooves grow out more than the front hooves.

I know there are articles out there at various web sites about the subject but I'd kind of like to have a few of you write some information, provide pictures if possible, and give your thoughts on the matter. It would be a great subject as well for some of the newbies because we really do not have anything in the way of hoof trimming articles yet.

Best regards,

Gary Pfalzbot
