to hay or not to hay...and save my tree!
OK I have been reading the debate over whether or not to hay during the summer. The girls have pasture that I am still having to mow'cause it's getting so high I can't see the babies (it's mostly weeds some grass) and I am tying the older girls out in the woods at the back of the property. They are all FAT FAT PHAT! except my yearling Oberhasli who is just not as heavy as I'd like. Do I need to be doing hay?
And they are eating the bark off a 50 year old maple tree despite my best efforts to keep them out (I am off to fix the fence again) Is this because they are missing something in their diet?
