I have a three year old Nubian buck that I plan to have wethered in about a month or so. I've heard horror stories regarding putting older goats under anesthesia for surgery only to have them not wake up again. Recently I read that goats do not require as much medication as other large animals. Is this true and if it is, how much medication should they get?
I'm more than a little attached to this guy. He's grade so he isn't much good to me as a buck, but as a guardian and a friend to little goats, he can't be beat. I've put weanlings with him for two seasons. When they cry he lays down with them. I want to keep him around because he's worth his weight in gold if that's all he ever does.
If anyone knows the specifics regarding the amount of anesthesia a grown goat should get, please let me know. I'm very nervous about having the surgery done but I can't keep him as a buck. Anything I find out here will be forwarded directly to my vet as he's the one doing the procedure.
Thanks in advance...
