I have bred does in December...such as my younger ones that I wanted to freshen but weren't up to snuff earlier in the season. It's getting pretty warm by the time the kids come but not so hot as to stress the doe. There are a few flies and things at that time of year but with a little extra care that can be handled. If I can't breed by December, I hold them over until next fall because I didn't like being pregnant in the sweltering heat of summer and I won't do it to them!

As far as the buck's sperm goes, I've not had a problem with any of mine being fertile with a little time lapse between breedings. But, I put the doe in with the buck and let her stay all day. I have a friend who lets me breed a few of my does to his buck every year. I know his herd as he knows mine and so I don't worry about taking my animals to his house. I have left does there for as long as three weeks! Maybe you could do this with your doe to make sure she's bred. Take her a few days before she's due to come into heat and then pick her up when she's bred. It works for me!
