HI,
I have been trying to post a message using the post button, and get no where, so thought I'd try this spot.....
We are a family who are beginners, got our first two kids last Feb. My son raised two does for a new dairy doe replacement 4-H project, which I thought up. We got this new thing started in our county, a dairy doe auction. Have you ever seen one at a county fair? I'm sure it's not an original idea, and I only thought of it becuase of the dairy heifer sale, which is like 100 years old. He sold one there at the Fair, and is leasing the other back to the commercial herd where he got her, then next Feb. he will get her two babes to raise for about 6 months. We are in a suburban/rural area but don't really have the space to keep goats full time, so this worked great. We enjoyed the bottle feeding and the showing, he had beginners luck of best junior doe in show. These are grade animals and now we will learn how they will do back at the ranch. Our herd friends just got best cheese of show at the american cheese show back east, and we are so happy for them! I thought it was neat how sleek and big his does looked at 8 months old, when they went back in the herd with thier siblings, etc. They had a great start! I have an article on how to start a dairy doe replacement project if anyone wants it, and one of the 4-hers is putting together a web site with the project on it. Thanks for listening!
