My husband is trying to be helpful at times and puts a round bale outside the fence for the goats to eat. I have a bit of a problem with that because the round bale, in my opionion, gives a good platform for an animal I DO NOT want in the pen to jump on and get in the pen, like a dog, buck goat on the run, etc. So I have asked him not to do that anymore for me for that reason. Some people leave the bale in the barn and unroll it to tear off chunks of the hay and feed it out. It is time consuming, but you can then look at the hay you are feeding. If you have large herds the cattle panel wrap has been used around here with success. You tight up the panel as the round bale shrinks inside.
