I have been working for several months to tie up a sale on a horse and get him shipped to Conn. Finally today was the day he was to ship. All went well for some reason I only woke up once in the nite and thats a new record... for me anyway. I got up about 6:30 and started the comp. and the coffee there is no life before coffee. I got the kids dressed fed and off to school. Goat hater takes them in the am I pick them up. Once he got home I got him fed and then did chores. Now he never helps in the am but of course me being stressed he decided to help. It was like having our 5 year old help I think there was something in the coffe....man was he wired. Finally chores got done and I hit the road for the stable to make sure the horse was ready and loaded. The shipper got to the barn late and gabbed for an hour before we attempted to load. Then he looks at me and says does he load? I of course say yes....at least he did. In the months that I have worked with this horse he NEVER had a fit about anything not even clipping his ears. The trailer had a ramp and no way was the horse going in, he was like the black stallion on two leggs striking all all that. Nice to look at in the movies but not when your on the end of a lead. The owners are not horse people and the daughter finally had to be told to go to the barn, I think I made her mad but the horse was freaking out and I can't pay attention to her, her mom, myself, the horse and the shipper. WHAT A CIRCUS. So with Mom and the daughter safely in the barn the horse, the shipper and I had a discussion and "Colt" went in the trailer. Then the snot stood like he lived in it. At that point I was ready to make a pair of custom Appy chaps out of him, what a booger. So down the road they go on the 15hr trip to his new home. By now we are freezing and head to the house for coffee, shortly after Goathater gets there and we go through the whole loading story again. And he says OH guess what the Dr. said? Most of you know he rides pro rodeo (or tries it's been a bad year). He went in to have some fluid drained off his knee (31cc. this time) it was a mess and had blood in it now he has some sort of walking cast that goes from below his knee all the way up. He also had his shoulder looked at because it had this odd shape to it, I told him it was broke and to have it looked at he said it wasn't. Well it is. Of course it's to late to do anything about so it will just always be broke. Now that makes a broken shoulder, finger, and nose in less than a year. Funny he took more time off due to the finger than anything. He laughed and said the Dr. just kept shaking her head the whole time, he told her he is ridding in 2 weeks, she was not impressed. But on the up side he can still run a nice fenceline. We have now almost finished our Doe pen, and buck pens. Both are set fine enough for winter. The doe pen needs a 16 foot gate to open into the field and the buck pen just needs to be cut in 1/2 with another shelter and gate put in the one side. I won't have my 3rd buck until probally Feb. so the Boers can share until then. I think we are done with breeding for the year our large wooly Suffolk goats ; ) are all bred , the Jacob goats ; ) are about done and the Goat goats are all covered but maybe one who can't decide if she is bred or needs to be bred. With the cold weather setting in early I should have more time to focus on my chaps and artwork but who knows. I just found out Monday that I am going back to work sort of the first of the month. My Aunt has terminal liver cancer and needs a nurse durring the day. Not sure how I feel about going back to work even short term but she is family and I like nursing so hopefully all will go well. So now I am off to do nite chores, make our dinner, bring wood in for the fire, and maybe go to sleep before midnite. Who knows I may even sleep through the nite.....probally not it wasn't that far out of the ordinary for my day to go as such. Have a good one.
