I am pleased to announce the arrival of Daphne...born on Monday afternoon...to Rosie. She is just a darling, and I hope to be able to post a picture with the help of a computer angel. Rosie was the little imp that went to visit Mr Jacob on her 1st birthday. I was hoping nothing happened, but....I was wrong. I figured her due date to be the 16th. I was so worried about her being so young, and it being the start of winter. But, thankfully everything went well. I came home from a long day of shopping to find Rosie missing. I went to the barn, and there she was...laying by herself. My hubby and I escorted her to the kidding barn(which I had just cleaned for her the day before), and she started pushing about 10 minutes later. What great timing! I did have to assist a little with the delivery. Maybe some of you more seasoned "kidders" can give me some advise on the delivery, as this is the second time I've had to assist. Rosie pushed and pushed....the hooves and legs kept coming out and then going back in....over and over. No head in sight. With her next push, I gently pulled on the hooves, and pushed the top of the opening(?vagina)up and saw the head lodged on what seemed to be maybe the tailbone?? Am I making any sense? So I put my finger above the nose, and directed in to a downward position, and out she came. Did I do right????? This was the second time I have experienced this presentation. Is it because the kid is big??? any ideas?? But anyway, everything is fine, and I'm very excited having another new life here. Of course the night that she was born, it got down to 30 and I was up half the night worrying that she was cold, but went out to find her just fine. I am such a worry-wart when it comes to my goats. Just thought I'd fill you all in. Sorry to be so long winded.
