She writes:

"First lactation milkers, especially if kidded at 14 months, must be run through...The production in the first year will not always be as high as it would have been had she kidded at two years. Against that she will have been producing steadily for the intervening ten months instead of eating her head off doing nothing - definitely sounder commercially and mentally as well - scatty doelings can be a pain. By the second year, when the the doe is running though, her milk will start to rise when the other does have their kids and often it will reach a higher level than when she came in originally."
