We just redid a buckling last night. During of course a big thunder storm/tornado watch! I just knew half way through we would loose our electric! We didn't :)
I just took my hoof trimmers and cut the horns/scurs off as close to the head as I could get, husband took the burner (I had his head secure in the milk stand, while I held his head from below, holding on through is mouth, husband burnt him from above. With the scurs cut really short you could see exactly where we had not burnt far enough to the outside of the horn.
If the whole horn is still growing on your guy, cut them off as low to the head as you can get, make sure your burner can burn all the way around the horn bud. Setting it on top of the horn isn't going to do anything. My rhinehart 50 has an attachement we put on with a 1 inch copper pipe fitting. You can also hold a 1 inch fitting into the fire, stove, propane torch gettting it cherry red than applying it to around the horn. Very important that your disbudding tool get around the horn and burn the base!
I updated my guys tetanus, wormed him and also gave him a big dose of probios. Vicki
