We started with electric fencing around about an acre and got the goats used to wire shocking them. Eventually I took down the electric wire at the end of the patch that went on to a 25 acre area that is fenced with barbed wire. The goats have gone through it one time. Seems as though once they have been stung good they won't touch any "strand" wire. You might try going a small distance with electric and the rest of the way with barbed wire. You may have a problem with limbs getting on the electric in the wooded area. I have a friend who has a closely spaced 6 barbed wire fence and it has worked good.
