Does the kid have a temperature? Normal should be about 102 degrees. Is it acting normal except for the snotty nose and mattered eyes? These symptoms could be caused by a bacteria such as pastuerella or clamydia or a virus. Usually a bacterial infection will cause a fever. An antibiotic will help in a bacterial infection but not in a viral infection, except to maybe prevent a secondary bacterial infection. IMO if the kid is basically acting normally with no fever I don't give antibiotics. Do you have a vet you can call and consult with?
