I noticed that nobody has given a stab at this problem. (I know personally I've been too busy talking about chickens).
However...Shirley, I have never had this type of problem with any of my goats. I did raise rabbits at one time.(Hey, anybody want to talk about rabbits...just kidding) Okay, back to your problem. Anyways, rabbits would sometimes get these crusty ears, called "ear canker". I'm sorry that I can't remember exactly what caused it, but old fashion mineral oil would cure it. The mineral oil served two purposes, (1) the oil poured down their ears would suffocate the bateria (or whatever it was) and (2) the oil would irritate the rabbit and make them shake their heads thus loosening up the crust until they literally shook the crust off. Without actually seeing your goat, I have no idea if your problem even comes close to looking like the rabbit problem. I'm sorry but this is all I have to offer. Take care.
