Whew - and I thought I could talk! LOL...
On rebuttal (well, not really...), interestingly, and maybe because I only have nine goats presently, I don't have a fly problem at all in my goat pen - and their pen is next to the chicken coop/pen, but already since our weather has gotten warm I have had an awful problem in the chicken area; of course the goat pen is raked at least once a week, don't know if that helps.
On the chickens/goats worm issue - I also Piperazine my chickens and Ivermec my goats, but that's why I said it was important to have a good worming schedule, otherwise I THINK it could be a potential problem, at least here in SW Florida it would be!
I agree wholeheartedly on the LGD issue - mine is a a Great Pyr/St. Bernard cross, looks big and bad, barks alot, but the chickens will sleep with him and share his food. He does his job well, and we love him to pieces...
As for the geese issue - I couldn't agree with you more - I can't tell you how upset I was when I spent one whole day (not to mention $$$) making two beautiful huge planters to sit on the front stoop, only to come out in the morning and find them devoured during the evening. Darn geese! They even ate the wires on my propane grill!!
We went away at Christmas - left my son in charge and the geese wandered to the back of the property where something got them. Was I very sad?
On another note - a week ago I tried to locate about 30-40 geese for a friend who wanted them for resale at her annual livestock sale; couldn't find any (at least for what she wanted to pay) - where were you then??? LOL
And last but not least - I will swear by my Golden Comets any day of the week - although my Silver Laced Wyandotte and Black Australorp are giveng them a run for the money on egg size!
Cluck, cluck!!
