There are actually several great sites for the "backyard" chicken enthusiast - if Gary doesn't have more info - most of which you can find just by surfing. Until I started thinning my flock this winter, I had around 100 chickens. Just decided I like my goaties more, and as my husband farms for a living - "I" only had a certain amount of room, and guess the goats won. I still currently have around 50, but will be going to a sale this weekend and will hopefully end up with around 30 - most of them free range. Trouble with my free-rangers is that the young ones haven't discovered the trick of laying in the hen house, and I find eggs everywhere! I personally have never eaten one of my own chickens - geez - they have names for goodness sake - how could I possibly eat Pete, Jacob, or Paul - or even Rebekah for that matter! LOL... happy "hunting" - there's tons of material out there, just be patient - you'll hear ten ways to raise chickens from ten people... experiment on what works for you and your location - being from Maryland - just make sure they have a place to keep warm in the winter!
