Hi,
Gee.... this story has a very familiar ring to it. On new Years eve last year our buck got into the grain bin, he got the latch loose on the door. Then he proceeded to party on the fgrin. Hubby left the metal grain box lid open. The next morning i happened to notice ole' Magellan wasn't looking right. he seemed a little dull and had a hard stomach. I instantly knew it was bloat after we saw him in the grain room. I then called our fearless vet. I waited for him to return our call, but on New Year's day I figured it would be hard to reach him. Anyways i gave him 1/4 cup of milk of magensia, then i waled him and walked him. You need to keep them moving if its bloat. he was so upset with me too, got tired of walking. But i told him point blank, i was older and it wasn't easy for me either.
Then after an hr or so i noticed this approach wasn't working so i called a fried. She suggeste giging him 1tblsp of hair conditioner in about a cup of water. Then to walk him til he blows. I did, and he blew. The vet finally returned my call later after the fact was said and done. He suggested giving him about 1/2 cup of mineral oil in a turkey baster down the hatch, followed by a watery baking soda mix. that went down the hatch too. Then he said to give him penacillian too, forgot the reaon, ahd to do with bacteria in his intestine.
He is fine now. But I was worried about foundering too, got to watch for tthat after bloat. Hope this helps.
