Tracey,

The first thing I'd do is get his temperature. This is extremely important. You did not mention the color of the nasal discharge. It could be something as simple as an allergy if it's clearish, more likely to perhaps be pneumonia if greenish/yellowish or a rusty color. The penicillin is a good start but may not be the entire answer.

I highly urge you to get his temperature rectally, and then let us know what it is. In the meantime you may want to check in our "articles" section here on GoatWorld about Pneumonia. I have included a link to it as well at the end of this post. It may shed some light on the situation as well.

I'm not ruling out other possibilities either, though pneumonia is a common (and life threatening illness) which is frequent in the summer.
