I'd have to agree with everyone about a "quarentee" on the herd. The visitors should understand, especially comming from England.
At my univeristy, we have always utalized foot baths in the pig nursery barn, at the entrance. We stopped doing this for a while, and lo and behold, we saw a re-emergence of problems that occured before we got strict on bio-security. We use a solution of Nolvasan (sp?). The stuff is about $40 a gallon, but you only need like an ounce to a gallon of water. At that mixture, we kill all the viruses that may enter on rubber boots, and I think its rated to kill everything from parvo, to the rabies virus. Just thought i'd share what we've used for our bio-security.

Gary - I'd have to aggre with you on your comment on the shipping of the infected sheep. When I saw the news that evening, showing the trailers being loaded up, I got so upset! When ever you have a problem such as that you can't just load up a whole herd and travel cross country. Its common practice to humanly destroy the animals on site, and then basically triple bag them for secure shipment! How much manure, ect do you thing flops off the trailer on the few hundred mile haul. AUGH...

but anyway,
Everyone keep watching the news!
