I acquired this past weekend an approximately 1 year-old Nubian; my neighbors had him and two weeks ago when I saw him on their property he was covered in clumps of feces (from scours); they are organic farmers and when I called them about the goat they said they would give him some Vitamin-C and D.E.; needless to say, the goat was not better by last weekend. He started snooping around their "under construction" home and left a trail where he had been (if you know what I mean)... They finally had had enough and asked me if I wanted the goat. I knew he was sick but couldn't see leaving him there for certain death (they already lost 4 does and 4 kids due to worms and only treated them with the Vitamin-C and D.E.). Anyhow, to make a short story long, I wormed him immediately (although only with Ivermectin paste), am giving him ProBios qd in his feed, Red Cell 3cc qd, and B-complex qod. He is isolated and I have been blanketing him at night (we are in Southwest Florida and it has been in the 50's at night this week with rain). I am not willing to go to major extremes with this goat, primarily due to cost prohibitiveness, but can anyone think of anything I am missing. He is eating Manna Pro Classic Goat, T&A hay, and will drink if the water bucket is given to him; he obviously has no energy, but we make him get up several times a day and walk a bit. Any comments are appreciated.
